Summer Nationals 2011

back to race reports

Qualifying gave us four attempts to secure No.1 It initially looked like Billy Gane was about to do it again.! But on the third run Dave Bailey ran an almost bang on 9.301 That’s 0.001 off perfect. An excellent run which was enough in the end, to receive the No.1 trophy, £100 and the ever-growing list of sponsors goodies. Well done to Dave.

Eliminations threw up some excellent runs and a certain Mr Steve Hudson seemed to be on it quite early. Ummm, we were all saying, Steve’s having a good day! Good lights and a 9.770 (9.77 dial in) run in the semi put him in the final, where he met Rick McCann but it was Steve’s day. Both went over the finish line 4 hundredths over there dial-ins but Steve took it.

Saturday night was Pro/et’s “Party in the pits” Santa Pod was kind enough to lend us the Pod stage and so the band, The Sideshow Bob’s, felt like they were at a real concert. !! The crowd seemed to be having a good time, especially when our very own Tig and Cath Napier took to the stage, whilst the band took a deserved break. Tig was on Bass and Cath singing with their friend Rik Rose playing lead guitar. They played for 45 minutes and what a fantastic job they did. Thanks guys. The main band then came back on and played us out until the midnight curfew.

The Championship is as close as its been for a few years. Steve now takes the lead in the National Championship. A big well done to Steve and Dave. The next round is at Shakey. See you all there.

Thanks to Mike for the report.
