Main Event 2011

back to race reports

The Main Event saw a total of eight qualifiers. Weather conditions didn't favour us as we had a mixture of cold, extreme wind, and even a bit of sun, though nothing was consistent so dialling in was a bit erratic.

In the end we saw a heroic effort by Billy Gane to secure, yet another No.1, his 5th in 3 years, with an almost bang on 10.2803 Only 0.0003 second off perfect, which gave him the Eurodragster.com / Gold RV perfect et award as well. He did leave us a small gap and a couple of qualifiers to try, but in the end we all found it impossible. Tim Stanbury getting the closest first with a 9.6948 and Jon Turner with a 9.9748 Both with exactly the same difference, a proverbial mile off, compared to Billy. A big well done to him.

For his efforts, and because he was running stickers, he received £100, a Pro/et “T” shirt, Two cans of Power pour from John Webster Racing, and a fuel jug from VP fuels, and a engraved tankard from MissB engraving.

Unfortunately qualifying saw a lot of broken cars again. Two broken rear axles for Amanda Cox and Roy Walker. A broken transmission for Dan Williams. Damage to the engines for Nigel Green, Dan Page, Marius Blackburn and Hans Van Der Spek who had made the effort to come all the way from Holland again.

First round eliminations were on Sunday night and that was as far as we got. The rain came down on Monday and an end was called at 3.00pm.

We also managed to pick up another two sponsors this weekend, MPM Oils and Hauser Race Cars, which brings our tally to an impressive 20 now.

Fingers crossed for some sun at the Summer Nationals, (25th 26th June) where Pro/et have some fun with our annual live band in the pits. Hope to see you all there.
